Community Contribution 3: Digital and Professional Identity

Hi Yuanwei. Thank you for sharing! I enjoyed reading your post and thought you touched on many important points. I agree that collaboration is an excellent way for students to expand their professional learning networks. This can be done online through a social media platform by posting photos and following accounts relevant to ones interests. Social media platforms are also useful for finding out about in-person events. For instance, I follow many psychology-related campus accounts on Instagram, such as Psi Chi, which has kept me up-to-date with upcoming events that professors and students in Psychology attend. I also think your idea of asking questions is a valuable tool that students should use more often. As students, by asking questions, we can learn from others how we can improve our professional networks while creating meaningful connections with professors or employers.

Hi JingJing. I found your post very informative. I really liked the ideas you included for students to consider expanding their PLN’s. Joining a team or online community point stood out for me as I know that many universities are now using the Discord app to connect with students. Some Discord servers are designed for students interested in talking with others in a similar program. I found social media accounts and the Discord app helpful to know what events or clubs are offered on campus. I also thought your idea of taking an online class important in expanding student networks. I know that Harvard University offers free online courses in different subjects, which is a great way to educate ourselves. Thank you for sharing!
