Hi Shone. I thought you made an interesting point about how our work and personal life online overlap. When we are online, we tend to view our personal social media uses as one part of our digital identity and our professional uses as another part of our digital identity because we express ourselves in different ways depending on how we want to be perceived by others. Although what we post is open to the public, we have to be cautious with what we are posting because, as you mentioned, many employers take into account our personal lives when deciding to hire. I think building our platforms and networks are great ways to improve digital identities for career advancements, but only if we are mindful of what we are sharing online. Thank you for sharing!
Hi Darcy. I found your post interesting because you showed the difference between the content shared within our professional digital identity and our personal. This is why many of us have multiple accounts on different social media platforms. For instance, I have my professional email I use for work and school and a personal email that I would use for my personal accounts on Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, and other social media platforms. Having these separate accounts lets me know where I should or should not post certain content, but I also always ask myself “would I want a future employer seeing this?” no matter what account I am using to post.
